About Me

Hey there!

My name is Claire Tucker and I am a copyeditor and proofreader who works with authors to achieve excellence. Some of my strengths as an editor include helping authors refine their voice and the voices of their characters as well as heightening suspense at a sentence level.

As a writer, I know what it is like to have precious words critiqued and use this first-hand knowledge to temper my corrections with encouragement. But be warned—I also throw in frequent Lord of the Rings and Star Wars references along with occasional comments directed at the characters (especially when they’re getting themselves into trouble).

One of my passions is education, both my own and that of the authors I work with. Because of this, I look for ways to expand my editorial knowledge and also offer tips and advice on writing powerful prose. These tips can be found on my website and my social media channels. The booklet, Cut the Fluff, was developed to help authors craft powerful prose that lets their story shine and is available for free to subscribers of my newsletter.

I live in sunny South Africa and enjoy hiking the beautiful Drakensberg whenever I can. My superpower is finding bookstores, but I know better than to leave myself unsupervised in them without a time limit. When not hiking, playing with my hyperactive dog, editing, or creating stories of my own, I can be found with my nose in a book or my fingers in a needlecraft.
